The jitte is a parrying weapon.
It is the standard equipment of a dōshin. It is a strong steel wand with two curved prongs above the hilt for catching the blade of an opponent's sword.
Ichirō Sano used a jitte to stop Masahito Niu from murdering Tsunayoshi Tokugawa during a battle in Yoshiwara which was instigated by The Conspiracy of Twenty One, who were determined to kill the shogun and take control of Japan. Sano used the jitte to cleave Masahito's skull in two.
